Customs Clearance FAQ

What is SASO/SABER and how do I register my product?
SABER is a Saudi electronic system for issuing conformity certificates for imported products. Registration requires: product registration, appointing an accredited conformity assessment body, and submitting test reports. Our team handles the entire process on your behalf โ€” from registration to certificate issuance.
Can I import a product to Saudi Arabia without SABER?
No. Most consumer products require SABER certification before entering Saudi Arabia. Products arriving without certification will be rejected by customs and may incur fines. That's why we insist on completing registration before shipping. Some food products and raw materials may be exempt โ€” we review your product and advise accordingly.
What are the customs duty rates in GCC countries?
Generally, the unified customs duty rate in GCC countries is 5% of CIF value. Exceptions: some products are exempt (basic food, raw materials), while others have higher rates (tobacco 100%, soft drinks 50%). VAT: Saudi Arabia 15%, UAE 5%, other GCC states 5%.
How long does customs clearance take?
With pre-prepared documents: UAE (Jebel Ali) 1-3 days, Saudi Arabia 2-5 days (depending on SABER completion), Qatar & Kuwait 2-4 days, Oman 2-4 days, Bahrain 1-3 days. Clearance delays most often happen due to missing documents โ€” which we prevent by preparing everything before shipping.
Can customs duties be recovered upon re-export?
Yes, when importing goods into one GCC country then re-exporting to another, paid customs duties can be recovered under the GCC Customs Union. Our Jebel Ali Free Zone warehouses in Dubai are the ideal solution โ€” store your goods duty-free and re-export when needed.
What happens if customs rejects my shipment?
This is exactly what we prevent. Thanks to our pre-review of all documents and certificates before shipping, our shipment rejection rate = zero. But in the worst case, we work with customs to resolve the issue: providing additional documents, adjusting customs classification, or re-exporting goods. Our goal is always the fastest resolution at the lowest cost.
